Target’s Sustainable Bullseye
In an inspiring move towards sustainability and brand innovation, Target unveiled a massive 259-foot (79-meter) diameter bullseye logo made entirely of solar panels atop their Inglewood, California location. Representing over 862,000 kWh of renewable energy, the installation was a bold statement during the day — but there was still a missing piece: visibility at night. That’s when SloanLED, partnering with Federal Heath, stepped in to deliver a lighting solution that would maintain the iconic brand presence after sunset, without compromising Target’s clean energy commitment.

The Challenge
Target’s goal was clear: create a highly visible, sustainable rooftop logo that embodied their renewable energy initiatives while remaining visually powerful 24/7.

While the solar panel installation achieved daytime visibility, the nighttime presence needed the same impact. Any lighting solution would also have to be durable enough to withstand heavy weather conditions and designed carefully around the sensitive solar infrastructure.

Our Approach

SloanLED collaborated closely with the solar installation team and Federal Heath to engineer a solution that delivered on all fronts.

We helped rearrange wiring and reconfigure panel layouts around the rooftop, designing a custom raised block system to protect the lighting components against harsh weather while maintaining the integrity of the solar panels.

To bring the logo to life at night, we installed 1,792 feet (527 meters) of LEDStripe Red — a large-profile, long-run, rigid LED tubing system known for its durability, energy efficiency, and architectural elegance.

As Federal Heath noted:

“SloanLED’s expertise in suggesting the best product and installation method made them the perfect partner for us on this project. The collaborative effort between Federal Heath and SloanLED helped ensure that this exciting project was a success.”

The Impact

Now illuminated after dark, the rooftop bullseye shines bright, visible from nearby landmarks like SoFi Stadium and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

This brilliant red beacon not only amplifies Target’s brand presence in one of the most highly trafficked areas of Southern California but also stands as a striking symbol of the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
